Early Childhood Development at Michael Mount

Michael Mount Waldorf School is an private school situated in Bryanston, Johannesburg catering from 4 months to matric.

Early Childhood Development

The Waldorf early childhood programme provides children with an alternative, safe, nurturing space across Baby Care (4 months – 2 years), Play Group (2 – 4 years) and Nursery School (4-6 years).

Young children primarily learn through imitation and use their senses to discover the world around them. Touching, tasting, seeing, smelling, hearing, and perceiving are the most impactful forms of learning. Having active experiences in a natural, safe environment allows children to identify their own place in the world.

At Michael Mount, we draw away from the typical pre-school pressures of meeting premature intellectual demands and allow the child to develop their own innate intelligence through carefully structured activities like song, stories, play, baking, art, handwork, and quiet times. These activities are designed to develop fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, general balance and coordination, as well as language, oral and social skills. Together with a rhythmic routine and time for self-directed, imaginative outdoor play in our beautiful gardens, children hone skills in concentration, curiosity, communication, and self-confidence at an early age, appropriately preparing the child for the classroom later on.

If our Early Childhood programme sounds well-suited to your child, please fill in the form below and we will be in touch with you shortly with further information.

Our highest endeavour must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.
